2022 Pan in Motion Scholarship Winner
As we strive to support our steel pan community and raise awareness of the artform, it is our duty to give back. In 2021 we provided the very first Pan in Motion scholarship and we were heavily determined to do the same in 2022.

At the annual CLACC - C Youth Festival held in Brooklyn, NY this Summer 2022 we offered our scholarship to the winner of the solo competition. While there were varying categories based on age, the oldest category catered to youth 21 and younger where many participants are in college including our winner Tyler Cohen. Who is Tyler Cohen?
Tyler Cohen is a young musician from Brooklyn, NY. He specializes in Percussion, Production/Engineering
and Arranging/Composing. He is currently pursuing a degree in Music at Brooklyn College. Tyler has been
playing steelpan for over 15 years. He is an active member of the CASYM Steel Orchestra, Pan Evolution
Steel Orchestra, the Summer Arts Institute Concert Band, and St. Gabriels Music Ministry. Tyler has
assisted with steelpan instruction in afterschool programs and private lessons. He has performed
throughout New York City at venues such as NYU, Barclay Center, Kings Theater, Lincoln Center, New York
Panorama, Coney Island, and JFK airport to name a few. He most recently performed for the Jamaica
Consulate General in NYC. Tyler has also been featured on PIX 11, Channel 12 news and BRIC TV. Tyler
has traveled throughout the US performing in Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Florida, and at the
Richmond Folk Festival in Virginia. Tyler has performed internationally in Trinidad and Tobago (Trinidad’s
National Panorama) and Canada (at Pan Alive). Presently, Tyler’s goals include pursuing a career as a
composer, arranger, and producer.
